Berawa is the cool little sister to Canggu, and it’s fast become the foodie capital of Bali thanks to its epic restaurants, hipster cafes and killer coffee shops…
We love everything that Bali has to offer, but it’s not only the beautiful beaches, smiling locals and natural landscapes that bring travellers from around the globe to this island paradise. Over the years, Bali has become one of the top foodie destinations in the world – a melting pot of culture, cuisines and cool cafes. And one place that’s on everyone’s hit-list? Berawa – the hip and happening little neighbourhood in Canggu that’s all about chic boutiques, hipster coffee shops and epic restaurants.
So, if you’re wondering where to eat in Berawa, or you simply need to refuel between surf sessions, you’ll want to make your way to this list of must-eats. From cool coffee shops for your daily caffeine fix, to Insta-worthy cafes and fine-diners too – here’s where to eat in the hip ‘hood of Berawa!
1. Jade Eatery & Sips
The hottest new restaurant in Berawa, Jade Eatery & Sips is a contemporary Asian restaurant slinging wood-fired flavours, fresh local produce and a farm-to-table concept. Behind the pans is legendary chef Wayan Kresna Yasa, so we say, prop up at the chef’s counter to watch him work his magic, or make it an al fresco dinner beneath the stars. You’ll want to start with the market fish crudo with passionfruit kosho, green strawberry, pickled jalapeño and lemon, before tucking in to the juicy pork jaw with creamy corn polenta, pork jus, and a crisp salad. Then, stick around after dinner because Jade Eatery & Sips is also home to a vibrant cocktail lounge, with live DJs, a carefully curated soundtrack and superb cocktails shaken and stirred by expert mixologists. Our fave? The Japanese-inspired Sakura Breeze, made with sake, shochu and rose tea.
Jade – Eatery & Sips, Jl Pemelisan Agung, Berawa, p. +62 361 210 129, e. [email protected]. Open daily.
2. Milk & Madu
Canggu’s true gem, Milk & Madu is the ‘hood’s absolute fave when it comes to breakfast and brunch, as well as family lunch and casual dinner. In fact, it’s popularity calls for not one, but two locations in the ‘Gu! We say start the day with the cafe’s take on eggs benedict, with poached eggs, avocado, bacon, rocket, onion jam and hollandaise on sourdough, and wash it all down with a mocha latte. Stay for lunch, and take your pick at Milk & Madu’s variety of colourful salad. Then, come back for dinner and make it a pizza night. And psst… bring the whole family, because the Little Ankle Biters menu for the kiddos is not to be missed either!

Taste the ocean with the seafood dishes served au naturale, from the freshly shucked oysters to the tartare and carpaccio. And a trip to the French Riviera isn’t complete without munching on the 100-gram Burrata cheese served with pickled capsicum. Follow it up with a hearty serving of Provence Seafood Soup.

Think artisanal breads and giant croissants baked to perfection, amongst classic breakfast and brunch dishes, best paired with the perfectly brewed coffee selection. A fave here is the Royal Folded Eggs on the bakery’s sourdough, topped with Arctic caviar, double cream and chives. Or there’s always the Korean Honey Toast if you’re feeling adventurous. Nestled between Berawa’s most popular hotspots, it’s the perfect place to fuel up before hitting the beach, or to spend a long and lazy afternoon in the cool, modern-Scandinavian interiors. The all-day European menu is packed with scrummy brekkie and brunch staples, from the truffle scramble croissant, to the zucchini pancakes and spicy avo toast. Japanese influences play a big role here, not only in the wooden interiors and Kevala ceramic display in every corner, but in each dish too. The menu is ever-changing to match the season’s harvest, meaning your Kaiseki-style breakfast may have different little dishes and flavour from time to time. We love the earthy interior design as a reflection of the farmhouse-style menu – topped off by an entire menu of single-origin teas and matcha.
