The topic of traffic in Bali is never far from the headlines. Over the past few months, public dialogue around the issues has reached a fever pitch and started to die down again.
Although Bali is in the middle of the low season, the dreaded traffic jams prevail. But one new company is offering a novel solution.
Canggu and Uluwatu are easily Bali’s most trendy party destinations right now. Canggu is busier than it has ever been, and Uluwatu is undergoing a period of rapid development, with new guesthouses, cafes, and party venues opening up every month.
Both Canggu and Uluwatu are pumping, and with so many world-class venues to experience and more and more international DJs and artists flying in every week, party lovers have to be select with which events they go to.
Although the island of Bali may feel small, getting from one big tourist destination to another can feel like a bit of a slog.

While Canggu’s Nelayan Beach and Uluwatu’s Padang Padang Beach are just 36 km away by road, it can take upwards of two hours to get from one to the other by driving.
Until now, that is. Tourists can breathe a sigh of relief as help is now at hand. Welcome to the scene GoBoat, a new ocean taxi service that is offering a shortcut between Canggu and Uluwatu.
The 40-minute journey by boat from Canggu to Uluwatu, or Uluwatu to Canggu, will save tourists upwards of an hour sitting in the car.
The pickup and drop-off point for Canggu is Nelayan Beach, and for Uluwatu is Padang Padang Beach.
The service will officially launch on Monday, 24th April, and tickets for the inaugural journeys are on sale now. Once up and running, the service will operate every Monday to Sunday, with departures in the morning and evening.
The Canggu to Uluwatu service departs at 7.30 am, 9.30 am, 11.30 am, 1.30 pm, and 3.30 pm daily.
The Uluwatu to Canggu service departs at 8.30 am, 10.30 am, 12.30 am, 2.30 am, and 4.30 am daily.
GoBoat notes that timetables are subject to change at the last minute based on weather conditions. Passengers should arrive for their boat at least 15 minutes before the scheduled departure.
GoBoat is committed to the safety of all passengers. Life jackets are provided to all passengers on every crossing and are a mandatory requirement. A full safety briefing is given to passengers prior to departure.
It should be noted, however, that the GoBoat service may not be suitable for everyone. Each passenger is permitted to take one handbag or backpack on board that is no larger than 50x35x20cm, so if you are moving from place to place and need to transport your big suitcases or rucksacks, it’s still a wise move to take a private hire car or taxi.
Booking a ticket is super simple. Head over to goboat.id and click ‘booking’.
Select which service you require, whether that be Canggu to Uluwatu or Uluwatu to Canggu.
Select the date and time you wish to travel and proceed to online payment.
Tickets cost IDR 200,000, inclusive of local taxes. Tickets are non-refundable nor transferable, so make sure you’re 100% sure of your plans before you book.
The GoBoat service is only available for booking online. You have the option of paying with all major credit cards, e-wallets (Ovo & QRIS), or direct bank transfers.
The tickets will be sent to you via email with a PDF ticket and a link to add your pass to your Apple Wallet if you’re on an iPhone.
One more thing, access to Padang Padang Beach is not free; everyone who visits must pay an IDR 15,000 entry fee that is payable in cash on arrival (or at departure!).
For many, this new service will absolutely revolutionize their experience in Bali.
The service will help make it easier for tourists to explore more of the island and make the most of everything these two world-class destinations have to offer.
Perhaps GoBoat will be the first of many services like this to help tackle the traffic on the Island of the Gods.
