A national tourism analyst, Taufan Rahmadi proposed the central government implement a total lockdown in all Bali regions.
Taufan explained that a major step is required to be taken in order to revive the tourism sector in Bali from the crisis since the Covid-19 pandemic struck over a year ago. He also urged the Indonesian government to learn from other countries such as New Zealand about how they’re handling the Covid-19 pandemic and allegedly saving their economy from permanent damage.
“I think the first phase of saving the tourism sector from further damage from the pandemic is 14 days of total lockdown in all Bali regions,” Taufan said on Monday (28/6). He also said that strict prevention protocols such as self-isolation, work from home programs, and closing down all public facilities from operating must be implemented and constantly monitored during the implementation.
After 14 days of lockdown, Taufan asked the provincial government to rapid antigen test all Bali residents before finally reopening all public facilities and offices to operate normally. “After testing all the residents once the lockdown ends, the government could consider reopening the border to both domestic and international visitors in order to avoid further damage to Bali’s economy in the future,” Taufan concluded. He also reminds the government that the plan to postpone the international travel arrangement is predicted to give a bigger impact to the dying economy in Bali.
