The Nusa Dua in Bali has already proven itself as a destination capable of hosting one of the world’s biggest geopolitical conferences. Now the luxury tourism destination is setting its visions on live music events. In March 2023, The Nusa Dua will host two major music festivals, and managers are hopeful these will be the first of many in the years to come.
The Nusa Dua is preparing to host Joyland Fest and Thank God It’s Festival next month. Both festivals boast impressive headliners and lineups of Indonesia’s most loved musicians and some international pop sensations too.
The Director of Operations at The Nusa Dua (ITDC), Troy Reza Warokka, told the media, “we appreciate the trust of the organizers to hold music events in the area that we manage. Of course, our area is very adequate to hold events that can be attended by thousands of visitors.”
He listed the world-class facilities on offer on Peninsula Inland, which include open state facilities, helipads, Kecak amphitheaters that can hold up to 600 people, and dozens of leisure activities and stunning landscapes.
The first festival to be held on Peninsula Island at The Nusa Dua this year is Thank God It’s Festival (TGIF), a music festival by UNIVLOX. The one-day festival features an impressive lineup of international artists, including Secondhand Serenade, Pamungkas, and JKT48. The festival will take place on Saturday 4th, March and tickets are available at the UNIVLOX website.
From the 17-19th March, Peninsula Island will welcome one of Indonesia’s leading music events, Joyland Festival. The lineup features Indonesian and international music acts set to attract 24,000 visits over the course of the three-day event. Norwegian pop sensation Sigrid will headline the festival alongside Grammy award-winning Phoneix.
Warokka said, “in the future, we will continue to work in collaboration with music industry players to organize large-scale music events as one of our efforts to attract more tourists to visit and vacation in The Nusa Dua”. While Indonesia, and Bali specifically, does attract world-leading musicians for live concerts, oftentimes, artists’ world tours miss off Indonesia in favor of destinations like Singapore and Bangkok.
The move to bring in more events tourism comes as part of the legacy of the G20. During the pre-launch event for the World Tourism Network Summit 2023 held in Uluwatu this week, the Minister for Tourism and Creative Economies highlighted how MICE tourism is key in tourism recovery in Bali.
The World Tourism Network 2023 Think Tank and Summit will be held at the Renaissance Bali Uluwatu Resort and Spa from the 29th of September to the 1st of October. Minister Uno said that representatives from 129 countries would attend the event.
Minster Uno told the audience of tourism stakeholders on Thursday, 23rd February, “we hope that the World Tourism Network Summit and the Bali Tourism Network will support quality and sustainable tourism with a target of creating 4.4 million jobs by 2024.”
The World Tourism Network is “the long-overdue voice of small and medium-sized travel and tourism businesses around the world.” The network aims to unite tourism stakeholder efforts to “bring to the forefront the needs and aspirations of small and medium-sized businesses and their stakeholders.” The network provides a platform to bring together the private and public sectors across regional and global platforms in the tourism space.
Alongside meetings, incentives, conferences, and events tourism (MICE), Bali is also focusing on attracting more sports tourism to the island this year. This week, also in The Nusa Dua, Bali welcomed the Sportel Rendez-Vous. This is the largest global summit for the sports broadcasting industry, and there are hopes that Bali’s hosting of the event will further boost Indonesia’s mission to become a world-leading sports tourism destination.
