On Friday, 24th March, Bali celebrated the opening of the biggest mall on the island. Located on Jalan Gatot Subroto Tim, Living World Denpasar is officially the most extensive shopping experience in the province, eclipsing Galeria Mall and Discovery Mall on Kuta Beach.
Living World Denpasar was formally opened by the Deputy Governor of Bali, Tjokorda Oka Artha Ardhana Sukawati, who is known by his nickname, Cok Ace.
He made a passionate speech at the launch event and shared his hopes that the new mall will bring big opportunities for tourists, local residents, and business owners in Bali.
Cok Ace said, “we hope that Bali’s MSMEs can upgrade, give them the opportunity to develop…My appreciation is also for space for artists to show creativity. Hopefully, this [mall] will become an asset and belong to us all for our common progress.”
He also noted that the new mall creates a space for community events, art exhibitions, and social interaction. Cok Ace said that although global trends for consumerism are shifting increasingly towards online shopping, the new Living World Mall in Denpasar provides a new take on the shopping experience.
He said, “this will be a new alternative for Balinese people to see malls with extraordinary concepts. Not just a mall, but it has a new concept. This also shows how much potential Bali is seen in developing shopping centers.”
So, why visit the Living World Mall in Denpasar? Well, there’s heaps to explore. The mall spans over 120,000 square meters and includes the mall itself, a vast amphitheater, as well as an “eat-ertainment’’ hub for all to enjoy.
Also speaking at the launch event, Agus Surya Bakti, the commissioner of the project, said, “[we] present [the mall] as the largest shopping center in Bali. Living World carries the Balinese spirit and culture in architecture, the mall concept, and its social initiatives in cooperating with MSMEs and the local arts community in Bali.”
Living World Denpasar is already proving to be incredibly popular with locals in Bali, with thousands turning up over the weekend to be the amongst the first to walk through the doors. The mall is home to international clothing brands like UNIQLO, lifestyle stores like Ataru, and world-renowned cosmetic businesses like The Body Shop.
