Bali is preparing to host the World Water Forum from the 18th – 25th May.
This major international conference will see world leaders and their delegations arriving in Bali to discuss water’s role in the environment, public health, business, politics and how they all intersect.
In order to ensure both the safety of the World Water Forum attendees and the general public, over 5,000 additional police officers will be deployed before, during, and in the immediate aftermath of the event.
With so many high-profile delegates and world leaders set to attend, security is a top priority.
Bali is well prepared to host a huge international summit such as this. In November 2022, the island hosted the G20 Summit, which saw heads of state from the world’s twenty largest economies arrive on the island for a 3-day conference.

The Police Inspector General and Bali Police Chief Ida Bagus Kade Putra Narendra has confirmed that the police will be working in coordination with the Indonesian Army (TNI) to ensure that all venues are secure.
They will follow a similar security protocol as the G20, with each venue involved in the event supported by three rings of security. Delegates and representatives from 77 countries will be in attendance.
Speaking at a press conference held on 20th April, Commander Agus Subitanto told the media, “TNI and Polri will work together with National Cyber and Crypto Agency (BSSN), State Intelligence Agency (BIN) and Ministry of Communication and Informatics (Kominfo) to maintain cyber security during the 10th World Water Forum. We also have prepared evacuation schemes in anticipation of natural disasters.”
The World Water Forum is a notably longer conference than the G20 Summit, and there is much to discuss.
Speaking to reporters, the Secretary General of the Ministry of Public Works and Public Housing, Mohammad Zainal Fatah, revealed that the Indonesian government is set to propose strategic water-related projects to the value of USD 9.6 billion during the event.
The theme of the 2024 World Water Conference, which will be held in Nusa Dua with some breakout field trips and workshops around the island, is Water for Shared Prosperity.
In a statement, the Indonesian Coordinating Minister of Maritime and Investment Affairs, Luhut Binsar Pandjaitan, explained, ‘The Forum brings together participants from all levels and areas, including politics, multilateral institutions, academia, civil society and the private sector, among others. “
“The theme for the 10th World Water Forum is Water for Shared Prosperity, which means water should be a resource that is available to everyone in the time it is needed. Hence, managing water properly may lead to prosperity for all.”
He adds, “The sub-themes are water for humans and nature, water security and prosperity, disaster risk reduction and management, cooperation and hydro-diplomacy, water innovative finance, knowledge, and innovation.”
Tourists planning their visits to Bali between 18th-25th May are advised that there will be more conference related traffic on the roads, there may be diversions and road closures for security purposes and Bali’s I Gusti Ngurah Rai International will be notably busier on the days when the delegates arrive and depart from the island.
The majority of the events will be held in Nusa Dua, the resort that has received a huge amount of investment specifically to be able to host huge international events such as this.
The area is also home to the highest concentration of 5-star hotels on the island.
The team in charge of the resort say that are ready to host yet more big events as the year progresses.
The President Director of The Nusa Dua, Ari Respati, told reporters, “With a series of international events that will be held and our efforts to perfect the holiday experience, we hope that The Nusa Dua will not only become a pleasant destination but also contribute to the development of tourism in Indonesia.”
“We are optimistic that tourist visits will continue to increase until the end of the year.”
