Local vendors at the Klungkung Public Market have been next to no income since the emergency partial lockdown was implemented on the 3rd of July 2021 in Bali.
Several local vendors who have been running their shops at the Klungkung Public Market admitted that their income has significantly dropped due to the partial lockdown. They explained that the crisis that they have been facing since the Covid-19 pandemic struck in 2020 has become worse as the government decided to impose an emergency partial lockdown in all Bali regions.
One of the local vendors, Ni Wayan Wita explained that the economic activity at the market immediately dropped since the emergency partial lockdown was implemented. “Despite the Covid-19 pandemic, we still received customers prior to this emergency partial lockdown.” Wita said on Monday (26/7).
Many vendors who had been relying on tourists as their customer were forced to change their target market since the Covid-19 pandemic struck, but now their only source of income is almost gone as most of their customers who live in Denpasar became unable to gain access to Klungkung region due restrictions between the borders. However, most of the vendors in Klungkung Public Market still decided to remain open in order to earn a little cash to cover their rent.
