Bali Senator Criticized The Endless Partial Lockdown In Bali

The Commission I of Bali House of Representatives, AA Gede Agung Wira Mantara has criticized the central government’s policy to keep on extending the partial lockdown.

Mantara claimed that the current community based partial lockdown is ineffective. “The problem is on the central government who keep extending this endless partial lockdown in several provinces including Bali.” Mantara said on Friday (24/4). He also explained that people are getting bored with this situation and start neglecting the regulations.

“People are getting confused with policies that keep changing, and most importantly the economy is getting worse as the businesses can’t operate normally.” Mantara added. Apart from that, Mantara also urged the government to reopen the international travel corridor as soon as possible to revive the Bali economy that has been destroyed by the Covid-19 pandemic.

He also said that regional governments in Bali have also been affected by this situation as they’ve earned much less from tourism since the pandemic struck. “Our regional and city governments in Bali could collapse in a matter of time as their tax earnings from the accommodation businesses keep dropping. So I beg Mr. President to reopen the border by June this year to prevent our economy from falling much deeper into a major crisis.” Wira Mantara concluded.
