The State-Owned Enterprise Minister, Erick Tohir, stated Bali will focus on medical tourism and plans to build a new international hospital in Sanur.
During a visit to ensure the availability of electricity for the G-20 Conference in 2022, Erick Tohir stated that Bali tourism needed improvement. This is so it can compete with the other Asian countries.
As part of the solution, Erick has decided to develop a Health Tourism program. He intends to create an International Hospital that is expected to support the economy once it starts operating.
“We will launch a Special Economic Region to develop an international hospital in the Sanur area. It will be equipped with the most advanced technology,” Erick said on Monday (27/12).
He also aims to turn the island into an international health center with the best medical services.
“We will be cooperating with experts from all around the world. We will also train our medical workers to achieve the standards of an international health center,” Erick added.
Meanwhile, the Indonesian President, Joko Widodo (Jokowi), hopes that this program will reduce the amount of Indonesian citizens who go outside of the country to receive better medical services.
“I hope Bali will become a place for medical tourism for our own citizens, as more than 2 million people have been going to other countries such as Singapore, Malaysia, and the United States to receive medical services. This causss us to lose IDR 97 trillion each year,” Jokowi said.
Erick Tohir also stated that the international hospital in Sanur is expected to start operating by mid-2023.
