A Bali official has confirmed that the rumor about the plan to raise visa on arrival fees for international travelers was false information.
The Head of Bali Law and Human Rights Minister, Jamaruli Manihuruk, stated that the recent rumor about the government’s plan to triple the visa on arrival fee at Bali Airport was a hoax.
“In accordance with the current regulation, the fee is still USD $35 (IDR 500,000) per person. That was just a false information,” Jamaruli said on Saturday afternoon (16/4).
Jamaruli explained that changing a government’s regulation requires a long process, and the government is required to make an official announcement before finally implementing its policy.
“I urge everyone to stop spreading false information, especially as Bali tourism starts to recover and international travelers begin to visit the island,” Jamaruli added.
A rumor regarding the plan to raise the visa on arrival fee from IDR 500,000 to IDR 1.5 million circulated, as The Bali Sun previously reported.
This caused tourism stakeholders from the Indonesian Tourism Industry Association to object to the policy as it might negatively impact the tourism industry that has been struggling since the Covid-19 pandemic struck.
