The Coordinator of Maritime and Investment Minister has announced that the central government is extending quarantine time for international visitors to 10 days.
After recently banning visitors from a total of 11 countries with the highest risk of Omicron variant transmission, the Coordinator of Maritime and Investment Minister, Luhut Binsar Pandjaitan confirmed that the quarantine policy for international visitors must be revised to anticipate the transmission of the new COVID-19 variant in Indonesia.
“Both national and international travelers who recently traveled outside Indonesia are required to undergo 10 days of quarantine upon arrival as of Friday (3/12),” Luhut said on Wednesday (1/12).
This policy was initiated to anticipate the new Omicron variant, which many people in different countries have contracted, including European, African and Asian countries.
Additionally, Luhut also instructed all the government officials to postpone their overseas trips to avoid potential transmission.
However, he admitted that this policy will be regularly evaluated as the government will keep on updating information regarding this new COVID-19 variant.
As part of the prevention stage, Luhut will start distributing the third dose of the COVID-19 vaccine for senior citizens in early 2022.
“We are planning to distribute the COVID-19 vaccine booster to our senior citizens by January 2022 to protect them from this new variant.” Luhut concluded.
