Through the Coordinator of Maritime and Investment Minister, Luhut Binsar Pandjaitan, the central government confirmed that the plans to increase restrictions during the upcoming year-end holiday season in Bali were canceled.

Luhut also stated that this policy would be implemented in all Indonesian provinces, including Bali, as Covid-19 transmissions were claimed to be adequately handled in the last several months.

Despite canceling the policy, revisions were made concerning the current partial lockdown level 2 implementation in anticipation of a Covid-19 cluster among the visitors. The policy changes include:

  • Domestic tourists must be fully vaccinated to gain access to the island.
  • Show proof of negative result from a Rapid antigen test, taken 24 hours prior to departure.
  • New year’s eve celebrations are banned in all public places.
  • Shopping malls, restaurants, and other tourist spots will operate with 75% capacity.
  • Every visitor must use the PeduliLindungi tracing app upon arrival.

Luhut explained that this decision was made after considering factors that positively impacted handling the pandemic. These include the rapid Covid-19 vaccine distribution, the significant reduction of Covid-19 transmission, and the decrease in the current Bed Occupancy Ratio (BED) of hospitals.
